Scale her Glow

Grace Showell, 22 years-old and hating the ageing process. I study Education at Wolverhampton University and I live the somewhat life o' Reiley at home, with my parents and pet rabbits. My Flickr page pretty much speaks for me, although I do try to submit one or two journal entries, once in a while.

The Swine, + Snuff

Monday evening was pretty enjoyable. Apart from a rigorous day going over assignments with my tutor and a very hard-going lecture in the late afternoon, I thought it went quite well, for a Monday. I finished at university at 1700 so I had just under thirty minutes to get showered and ready to go out, as Ritch was coming over at half-past. We went to Chiquito's for a quick dinner and got to the theatre just after 1915.
The show started at 2000 so there was time to grab something sweet and a bottle of water. I find those places terribly chlaustrophobic and I get rather hot when I start to think about the consequences of the dress circle actually giving way, or somebody tripping and falling down ALL of the steps from the upper circle. It's really quite scary.

Trevor Locke opened the show and, to be honest, I though he was very funny. Not so much in the was that Brand is, though. He wasn't particularly rude or offensive, but his style was just spot-on. He spoke fast, and continually hit the audience with punchline after punchline. It's not normally my type of humour, although as the set progressed it seemed that Locke started to get into the swing of things and started to show off how witty he actually is. Lots of word-play and his constant fidgeting resulted in a good response from the audience, and he ceratinly had me laughing. He was quite hot, too.

Russell Brand lived up to my expectations. That is, because, I didn't have extremely high ones for him anyway. He was funny, as usual. His stand-up material is quite different to that which you see on telivision, most recently on the Brit Awards (and he had a few things to say about that event that were censored by ITV).
Sadly, though, his set included a lot of stuff from the DVD that was released before Christmas, so I was a little disappointed. However, he did talk about some more topical subjects and even called Solihull CID using a phone from a guy in the audience regarding a 'Gem Snatch' that he had read of while scrutinising a local newspaper on stage. I liked that part of the show, I can't imagine how he could have possibly 'staged' something like that.

When it was all over we had to wait in the rain in the queue for the car-park. It was one of those NCP ones where you get a card when you enter and you pay for your ticket when you return. Needless to say, the price was extortionate. I dislike it when businesses choose to charge disgusting amounts to park when they know full well that they are the only car-park in the vecinity, so you simply have to pay the price. That remindes me, I must stick some more change in my car's ashtray, for when it happens again.

All-in-all, we had a good evening. I took a few pictures, but not too many, it's not like there was a costume change or we moved venue. Brand looked exactly the same throughout the show. You'll find them on my Flickr, anyway.

In better news, I had a great dream the other night which involved Simon Pegg and Nick Frost but mainly Matt Berry. I absolutely love the man, and it was awesome for him to grace my slumber without involving and bloodshed or acts of a sexual nature. I'm gutted that my nerves took over that night when we went to see him at Staffordshire Uni Bar, but Ritch got a photograph so at least I have something to look at throughout my day.
I want to get tickets for another of his shows, soon, and this time I'm going to say hi.

If you're a fan of Matt Berry, or Snuff Box, or pretty much anything he has starred in over the years, feel welcome to sign this petition to get a DVD released of last year's first series of Snuff Box. The same sort of thing worked to get Stephen Fry's QI released, so I reckon this could have an impact. Cheers.
